Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. Because her father's death the family, it was managed by her mom, grandmother, and godparents. She suffered from an anxiety disorder based on word associations as a young child. Ford's love for acting grew as a child. She joined the National Youth Theatre. She was admitted to Sylvia Young Theatre School but after just one week she realized that she didn't fit in. Ford instead applied to the Central School of Speech and Drama, finally winning a place on her fourth application. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler, a regular character for Doctor Who. Ford received her degree in 1993. But, before then, Ford made a television debut when she appeared as a character in Surgical Spirit in an episode from 1990. Ford took the professional name Catherine Tate. Tate began her TV debut in 1991, appearing in shows such as The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. Tate was a regular performer on stage and was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company's 2000-2001 season. Tate began to gain attention for her stand up comedy in 1996.
